Too bad

Another weekend is almost over but since I'm off uni tomorrow, I'll be able to spend another night in Edinburgh. Yesterday I met up for a Starbucks date with Alyssa. After giving her a nicotine shock and topping up on some gossip we went shopping. Well, none of us actually bought anything. Like always princes street was windy and of course (this is after all Scotland) it started to rain.

Also, I met the too bad car. It was shame you weren’t there to share the moment with me, oh well, I guess that’s just too bad.

University of Stirling this morning

Exam fo sho

That's it. First university exam passed and over with. I got 56% and forgot to check what I got for my numeracy =P After the exam the nurses of the 5th floor in AKD had a party before we went out clubbing. I can't remember much of the night, but I did take some photos.

Hello MTV, welcome to my crib

Despite the fact that I have an exam on Tuesday, I just can't seem to be able to revise. I was so desperate today that I actually cleaned my room. You blog readers will actually get some photos of my room now that it doesn’t look bombed anymore. My plan was to get up early today and be very productive and work my way through the cardiovascular system and cells. However, people decided to drink yesterday and the noise made me go out of my room and join the party. It was Lorraine’s birthday and the Norwegian birthday song was very much appreciated even though it must have been painful to listen to my singing. I made up my mind that I would not drink, but I still stayed up until 3 with the girls. We also got our nurse uniforms yesterday. You'll get a photo of that the moment my face decides to actually look nice on the photos I'm taking. So here is my room in A. K. Davidsons halls 5th floor east side

And here are some photos of the kitchen

and finally some photos of last night

Placements

On Saturday I ended up going out clubbing again, but it ended up as a quiet night since the fishbowls made me go all helicopter head. Then when I woke up on Sunday I started my X-men marathon that was briefly interrupted by cake on the 7th floor.  Yesterday I went for basic life support at Forth valley hospital before I got on the bus to Edinburgh. Today I'm a happy panda. I was finally told where I'm going on my first placements. St Ninians Health Centre. It's a GP office and I'm super excited. CBA writing any more =D

Study studa stuka stdka sodka vodka

Despite my serious plans of revising yesterday it just did not happen. After my lecture on communication I took a nap and woke up and almost died of boredom. After walking around wondering if I would be more entertained if I jumped out of the window, some of the girls mentioned that they were going out clubbing. I quickly got my dress, heels and makeup on and after a few drinks we were ready to go. I'd love to tell yous all about my night, but I think photos are a better idea. That goes faster so that I can roll up in bed and try to recover.

Just a waste of time

I decided to study today. I had no lectures and no plans. However the internet didn’t let me. I got distracted by Gary tank commander, Facebook, funny cats and just internet in general. I did however take some photos of me pretending to start studying. I tried to take a shower to see if it would help, but after a traumatic experience with the lights turning off and a spider trying to eat me I simply gave up and decided to Skype a bit with Sandra and Tanni. Apart from that I’ve been eating chocolate. A lot of chocolate. For those of you that doesn’t know I have an exam the 25th of October about SO MUCH STUFF.

Clinical skills

This week has so far been a very practical week. On Monday I had a lesson on Therapeutic management of violence and aggression. Basically what we did was learn what to do if we get attacked by a patient and how to avoid being attacked. We learned some fancy moves on how to loosen someone’s grip without in anyway hurting them that were quite funny. However I'm not sure I'll remember the "six steps" if a patient tries to strangle me. The coolest thing we learned was that we are most likely to be attacked by a 75 year old woman. Yesterday I had a lesson on moving and handling. The most important thing i learned was how I under no circumstance can lift a patient. I got a go at being the patient, and I could really feel the difference between the different methods used when it came to moving a patient. It really got me thinking about how careful you have to be. I still almost rammed Lorraine into the headboard of the bed when we used the slide sheets (not on purpose of course)

At night we went to the students union to watch Scotland – Spain game. I have to say that Spain crushed us, but I still had a lot of fun. The union was filled with super enthusiastic football fans and I have to say that they got me involved as well. I was a good girl and only had two beers and left right after the game. I wish I could say the same about the people living in my hall. While making myself a night snack the one after the other started rolling in to the kitchen drunk. The best entertainment ever is Ellen with her gymnastic moves. Priceless

Today we had a lesson called clinical skills. It has been by far the most interesting lecture so far. The best part was when we learned how to take someone’s blood pressure. It’s not as easy as it looks. My blood pressure is 100 over 60, so I have quite a low blood pressure.  I need to practise more on taking other peoples blood pressure though, because according to me Lorraine does not have a pulse and Laura is barely alive. We also feed each other. We took turns on being blindfolded and then the other person was the nurse feeding us some yoghurt. It was weird being in that situation, but I now see how uncomfortable it must be if the nurse doesn’t tell you that the food is coming and what food you’re getting. We also changed sheets and learned how to properly wash our hands.

I got to run now. We’re watching a movie in the TV room =D

A little bit of home

The weird thing about living in Scotland is that I have several homes. "I'm going home" can mean Stirling, Edinburgh or Oslo. For all of my Norwegian readers I have good news I'm going home, Oslo home that is the 20th of December. I'm expecting a queue of people on the airport to line up with all my Christmas presents, just so you know. It's going to be good going home and just be with my family again. Mom, dad and my little brother Tobias are going on a holiday and coming back the 24th, so for the first time my sis and I will make Christmas dinner. I'm pretty sure we'll end up drinking too much wine, burning the food and ordering pizza. We're also going to buy the Christmas three and decorate the house. Mom and dad are going to get a big surprise when they get home! Apart from being excited about going home I'm back at Stirling after being in Edinburgh for 4 days. After going shopping on Saturday, Connor took me out to the Filling Station. Since I'm such a proper blogger, of course I took photos of the food.
