The Witchery

Yesterday was Lee's 50th birthday and despite me managing to ruin the Morocco surprise a few days ago last night went smoothly. The moment Lee left the house to go to a retirement part of a friend of hers we transformed the kitchen into something very sparkly. Balloons and banners were put up with cake, flowers, champagne and gifts. Then we all got ready and headed of to The Witchery. It's a lovely restaurant up close to Edinburgh castle. It is also the restaurant Lee and Dannie got engaged in. The night was perfect and Lee had absolutely no idea. Connor and Jack both had bought new suits for the occasion and they were both very handsome. The meal might have been the best one I have ever had in my life. Everything was perfect and I actually did not have any room for dessert (I know it sounds like a like, but I am telling the truth). We all had haggis for starters and then I ended up with steak for my main course. The size of it was quite massive, but that's the way I like it. Dannie had done a great job organising it all and he is getting two thumbs up.

Mum and dad

Maybe it's time for another blog post. I always manage to postpone writing these things. The last few days I've been planing what I am going to write, but to be honest you always end up hearing the short version. Guess I better get started: My parents were here this weekend. It might have been the happiest I've been for ages. Living this far away is really hard. Each time we say goodbye it's always a few months until the next time we see each other. This time it's only until Christmas, but it's more the fact that when I do see them, it's only for about a week or so. They were only here for the weekend this time. I was so excited on Friday to go along and pick them up from the airport I might have passed out. Connor is a real soldier for not giving up on me despite my very frequent emotional outbursts. Dannie drove me to the airport and then dropped mum, dad and me off at the hotel. They were staying at Radisson Blu at the Royal Mile. The hotel was stunning and the bed was the biggest one I have ever seen. I was slightly jealous. Unfortunately mum and dad arrived quite late and after a quick pizza and chat they went to bed, and I back to Musselburgh.
The first day I showed my parents around Edinburgh. Primark and the Castle was our main attractions. Mum loved Primark (or she loved the prices that came with it). Saturdays main event was going up to Musselburgh for a meal with Connor's parents. I was really nervous as it was the first time mine and Connor's parents were going to be introduced. Luckily there was no reason to be nervous at all. The language barrier was not as big as I thought it was going to be and after a lovely meal (that James somehow managed to sneak his way into joining) we went back to Lee and Dannie's house for some drinks. Reports from both sides the next day indicated a successful night. Could I ask for anything better?

Sunday was a bit different. Connor managed to (I am convinced on purpose) give me his cold (OK, so maybe it wasn't his fault). We started the day by climbing Arthur's seat. The view from there is absolutely stunning and I got some lovely photos of mum and dad up there. After our little adventure we went to an Italian restaurant for lunch. I almost fell asleep at the table as the previous night had replaces sleep with Connor coughing and me sniffing. Damn cold can go where the sun don't shine. I went back to the hotel while mum and dad did some shopping and sightseeing. The bed was a lot better than expected and I slept for a good two hours before dad woke me up. He traded places with me while mum and I went out to buy me some new shoes. Nothing fancy just a new pair of trainers as the ones I used to have were my little brothers that I took once he grew out of them. At night I showed mum and dad Greyfriars Bobby and then we went to the Filling Station with Connor for dinner. We had a lovely meal before we went to the hotel for the rest of the night. Saying goodbye was surprisingly hard and I cried the whole way home. I might be 20, but I'll always be their little girl.

Now they are in London for the rest of their holiday. Not going to lie. I am slightly jealous.
Dad turned 50 yesterday and I really wish he had stayed here for his birthday, but instead he just had to settle with a phone call and an early birthday present while he was still here. I have the best parents in the world, the only problem is the distance!

The crap category

In my last post I mentioned the "crap category". Most of my things probably do end up there. When I moved back to Scotland slightly over a year ago I had brought two suitcases with me. When I moved into Bayne Street on Saturday I had 4 large and two small suitcases, 4 bags and 3 handbags (and remember that this is not counting the huge pile of crap at Emily, Lesleyann and Melanie's flat). Lee drove Connor and I up to Stirling. The thing is that Lee's car is quite small and the Jeep is not starting. Jack was also coming with us since he and Lee were both going on to Fife to visit Connor's grandparents. This meant that there was a limited amount of space in the car. Some how we managed to squeeze it all in, but Bamse (my large teddy) had to sit on Jack's lap. I think pictures will illustrate my point better than words will

I could probably do without 2/3 of my stuff, but I'm not the kind of person to throw things out. I will be like "oh, I'll just bin this" and then my brain will go "STOP! What do you think you're doing, you might need that piece of stings in the future, what if the world all of a sudden runs out of strings and you'll be the only one left with some. You can not bin this. It's a matter of life and death". It's hard to have an argument with yourself like that, and I usually give in and keep it. As I am organizing my room now I keep on finding a lot of stuff that I tell myself that there was no reason to keep, but I still don't bin it. Oh brain, why do you have to make everything so complicated?

It is starting to feel like home

I have been slowly putting up all my stuff and making my room feel a lot more like MY room. My old room in Norway was tiny, but it was 100% mine. I am really looking for the same kind of feeling in this room. It's hard to put everything up, because it still feels very temporary. I've moved so much over the last year that I don't feel very settled. It's also the fact that I go to Edinburgh all the time and it really makes me wishing for just one place that is just mine and that I can come into and feel like it's my home. With a bit more effort I think I can get that feeling here in Bayne Street.
My old room in Norway
Home to me is a room filled with stuff. Not necessarily messy or unorganized, but it has to look like some one is living there. For me to have that feeling there must be a lot traces of their lives there. Like yous can see in the picture I have my walls filled with: pictures; souvenirs; jewelry; and I guess a lot of it can go in the category crap, but it's filled with memories and there is constantly something to be reminded of. It makes me quite sad that a lot of this is now packed away in my basement in Norway. I want it all here with me so I can reminded of all the wonderful things in my life. Then again I have gathered so many things in the year I've spent here that I probably wouldn't be able to fit it all.  One of the things that makes me sadder than the picture of my old room is the picture I took of my room the day I left

Yes I am totally having a very sentimental moment.
Well, like I said I am finally starting to build up that feeling here in Bayne Street. I'm not ready to show a picture of my whole room as it is still far from organized, but I will give you two of some details

This is me for now. As I said, I promise to add photos once everything is organized and looks good enough for photos to be taken.

Hello flat

I can't help but love my flat. It has two bathrooms, a huge living room/kitchen and my bedroom is actually a decent size. My flatmates are really nice and organized and I live right next to a massive Tesco, a two minute walk from the city center and so close to a Chinese and Indian take out that I smell it through my window. My diet will suffer for this and I'll probably be unable to loose weight, but for now, I'll just enjoy every moment of it. I'll add pictures of my flat once I have organized it and completely unpacked. Right now my room is slightly messy. By slightly it looks like someone blew up my wardrobe. Living right next to Tesco wont only affect my diet - my wallet will be heavily affected as well. Today I managed to spend £50 in there. They have a huge sale on home ware so I bought a new cutlery set, some new glasses and a lot of food.
My birthday party on Saturday was absolutely fabulous. Connor and James came up for the party. Lesleyann, Melanie and Emily had really done a great hosting job. I even got a wee birthday cake. We had pre-drinks at their flat them disappeared to Dusk. It was a brilliant night that ended quite early and we were home about half past one. I live so close to the center that I could actually walk home. With my killer heals off of course. I Truly have a lot of great friends here in Scotland.

Bayne Street

Tomorrow is going to be a great day. I can just feel it in my bones. I have so much to look forward to. The first thing that is going to happen is me moving into my new room in Bayne Street. It is going to be the same style as the two other rooms I've lived in, but that's not the exciting part. This is a lot more like a flat as I am only sharing it with a handful of other people. I'm not sure about the exact number but it's going to be about 4 to 6 people in the flat all together. I'm going up with Connor and James, because later on that night we're going to my birthday party. The party is hosted in Lesleyann, Melanie and Emily's flat. I am very much looking forward to this. Getting all my belonging from Edinburgh to Stirling however, I am not that excited about. It's going to be so good settling into Bayne Street, as I am now very much tired of having my things scattered everywhere and locked away in suitcases. I am a bit sad about moving away from Connor though. I've gotten so used to being around him everyday, that going back to only seeing each other in the weekends only will be quite hard. Luckily it's not all bad. Not sharing my bed is one of the best things I know about.

Skittle vodka

Last night Connor and I decided to make skittle vodka. It was quite exciting.

Happy birthday to me

Yesterday I turned twenty and left my irresponsible teenage years behind me. Kinda. It's 92 years until I'll be a teenager again. That is if I live that long of course. I had a absolutely fantastic birthday. At midnight I got my gifts from Lee, Dannie and Connor. From Lee and Dannie I got a dinosaur space hopper, a very pink and glittery scarf, toe socks and a pair of absolutely gorgeous earrings. The space hopper was really exciting and was a good laugh but now it's kind of just taking up a lot of space. From Jack I got the Skyrim dlc: Dawnguard and from James I got Fall Out 3. So I have a feeling I wont get too much studying done. The gifts from my family in Norway I'm still waiting on. When Connor asked me what I wanted from my birthday I asked him for a flat or a car. You can't imagine my disappointment when I only got a laptop instead. OK, that was a joke. I was actually extremely excited. My old laptop was, well, old is the only way of describing it. I really needed a new one so it was actually the perfect gift. The more I have been using it the more I realize how terrible my old one actually is. Last night Dannie and Lee took me out to a restaurant with Connor and Jack. I had a fun time before I realized that we might miss the X-factor and made everybody rush home. At night I ate a whole tub of Ben and Jerry's because I deserved it. Next weekend is my actual birthday party. The lovely Emily, Mel and Lesleyann are hosting it. Hopefully it will be a great night!

At least neither of us look normal on pictures!

Another night out

After my last post about how great quiet night out are I decided to have another one. I put some make up on my face and went over to Eilidh, Kate and Ciara's flat before we went out, What I didn't realize was how the weather was going to ambush me. I was more or less washed away. At their flat we sang along to all the songs and we pulled out our best moves. That might have been for the best as public humiliation is something I am hoping to avoid in the future. At their flat I met my new boyfriend, Sebastian. Connor will never compare to a man like him <3. Sebastian is 75 million and a half years old and live in King Street in Stirling. WE ended up in the pub Nicky-tams in Stirling and had a great laugh. I even managed to remember to leave in time for the last bus home to Murray Hall. I've moved out of Murray Hall now. I'm currently at Connor's place until the 8th of September when I move into Bayne street.

Storm of updates

So last time I blogged I was all like “Oh no, exam soon I’m going to die. Woooahhh”. Well, the exam did not go so well. I was told I got 50% but I still don’t know the real result because of the exam being ridiculous. We got asked the same question twice and some of the questions had several right answers. So we have been told that we can show up tomorrow and find out what’s going on. Trust me: I’ll be there. Luckily I went out clubbing that night and drank away all the hurt feelings and made a fool out of myself. I don’t think it’s my fault that I had too much alcohol. I blame Dusk for being a really cheap nightclub and having £1 drinks! Apart from dying of exam-stress I have been quite an emotional wreck with everything that has been going on. I am moving (again) but this time I have a ten day gap between moving out of Murray Hall and into Bayne Street. I’m crashing in Musselburgh at Connor’s place until I move in so I’ll have to travel back and forth between Stirling and I really don’t like that. I especially don’t like that it’s the middle of fresher’s week so I’ll miss out on all the fun and in the morning I’ll get to see Connor cuddle up in bed and being super comfortable. I really need a car. Luckily I have great friends who are letting me store my fridge, ironing board and other general crap in their flat. They are also hosting my birthday party since I’m homeless. Great friends really make life a lot better! Last night I went out with some of the girls and I had a great time. I was really hungry since I forgot to eat before we went out I left the nightclub at ten to one to grab something to eat (all the food places in Stirling shut at 1). After completely destroying a subway I decided to go back to dusk, but it was cold so I got a taxi home instead. I really think that was a smart move because I woke up this morning not feeling like jumping in the university lake to end my life just so the hangover could end with me. Maybe quiet nights out is the way to go? Save money and not being a zombie the next day. I know it seems like I am some kind of alcoholic-party-animal-student that does nothing but go out and get out of her mind drunk all the time, but that’s just because I never write about all the night I spend at home eating a whole tub of ice-cream and watching a film or a crappy TV show for the 5th time. And the only times I write about the nights I sit home studying is when I have studied so much I feel like just dropping out of university and becoming a stripper. Not that that would ever happen. I don’t have the stamina to dance all night and I imagine swinging on a pole would just make me feel sick and dizzy) I also now realise that I should most probably update my blog a lot more often. I imagine a bunch of small blog posts to be a lot better than one occasional long one like this! (also had to steal this picture of my Instagram account becuase I'm blogging from the library, that's why you get the lovely description with it)

all of a sudden I realized..

Take that exam.. nobody cares

Oh hia blog

So I'm back in Scotland and have been for quite some time. I have just simply been too lazy to update my blog. There has been quite a lot going on since I came back. Just to let everybody know, this is a blog post I’m only posting to procrastinate the studying for my exam on Tuesday. I'm most probably not going to pass it anyways. Unless I study a lot. This probably will not happen. When I came back to Scotland I left sunny Norway and landed in rainy Scotland. Luckily that was only for the first day. The second day was lovely and I was lucky enough to have my aunt Anne and uncle Gabi plus my two beautiful cousins here. They stayed at Grassmarket hotel in a really fancy room. I showed them a little bit of Edinburgh, but they had seen quite a bit of it already since they had already been here for a few days. We had a lovely dinner at Jimmy Chungs and then I had to go back to Connor's so I could sleep before the first day back in lectures.
They are simply beautiful. After a long day in lectures it was time to hit the town and I put on my makeup, dress and high heels before going over to Tasha, Lana, Michelle and Amy's flat. After a few drinking games and embarrassing dancing we went to dusk where they served £1 drinks and I was in alcohol heaven and the proud owner of the world’s biggest hangover the next day.

Then I finally broke my Nando's virginity. It was about time. I also went shopping with Hannah and bought some stuff I really don’t need. One of the things was quite useful though. A new academic planer. I loved my old one and wanted one just like it, but I was unable to find it anywhere so I settled for another one that was quite ok. I totally panicked once I started to write in all the birthdays in it and Connor's 21st was on print of the first time. Oh damn. After that Lee and Daniel went on a holiday to Greece and I have more or less moved in for the two weeks they are gone. It has been great and made me realise how much I want my own flat with Connor. I love seeing him every day. Apart from this my life has been filled with course work that has needed to be finished by year 1. I am really quite scared that I'm going into year two soon. Things are going a bit too quick for me. Now I really got to go because I do not want to fail this exam.

(I'm terrible at keeping my blog updated but I'm constantly on Twitter @Pejnilje)

Blueberries

Today dad and I went into the forest to pick some blueberries and found lots. I love the forest and I really miss being surrounded by it when I'm in Scotland. Well, no words just pictures:

Sunshine

On Monday it was time for Connor to go home to Scotland. However, before I was ready to put him on the plane we went to Drammen and met my grandparents. They are doing construction work on the train lines so we had to get the bus-for-train bus to Skøyen and a train from there, so we were an hour late when we finally arrived at my gran's flat. My gran was in a great mood and she looked fantastic. She gave us a glass of cola each, like my gran always does and we sat and had a chat for a while. My gran gave him her Gran's seal of approval, before we went to a Chinese restaurant where my grandfather was waiting for us. I had a lovely time with my grandfather never stopping to talk like always and a lovely meal. My grandfathers English was flawless, not that I should have expected anything else. Mum and dad picked us up at 5 to drive us to Torp and send Connor home.

Tor Egil and Silje stayed until Wednesday and after they left I went for a walk in the forest from Sinsen to Grefsenkollen to Linderudkollen and back again.

On Thursday I met up with Stine at Aker Brygge and had lots of brain coolers and Ice cream. After several hours of bitching and baking in the sun we went home where I went straight into one of the beds on the veranda to sunbathe some more. I really should not have done that because oh damn I got sunburned. My parents can be quite cruel and kept on bullying me for being so pale. Being red instead did not help.

Luckily I just look really tanned on this one
I also got a lovely tan line after wearing my black sandals. Because I got so sunburned in the front I decided to only tan me back yesterday. That was a terrible idea. Now I'm just sunburned all over! While tanning, Sandra came over to my house for a few hours. It was great seeing her again and we were lying in the sun for a few hours before I went to Frognerparken to have a BBQ with Dharshika, Stine, Alisha, Aurora and Kaja. It was great to finally meet Alisha and a part of Aurora and Kaja's oxford life, especially since they have seen so much of my Scotland life. Alisha was lovely and really good at Norwegian (even though she mostly said the bad words, since Dharshika is a bad person).

 My beautiful/retarded cousin and bestfriend

After the BBQ I went to Bohemen with Kaja for a pub quiz. Luckily we didn’t end up with the lowest score this time. We were the second last! Wohoo. I had a great time and after the quiz it was time to go home and watch the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics. The show was fabulous and I enjoyed every second. There must be some weirdoes that arrange it all though. "We’ll have the queen jump out of a helicopter with James Bond and Mr Bean take the piss out of this song and huge towers coming out of the ground and dancing nurses and a hundred Marry Poppins’!". The amazing thing is how it all just came together and worked! 6 out of 6

We see you now

The 22 of July has passed and it's one year since the bomb in Oslo and the shooting at Utøya. There was a beautiful memorial concert in Oslo with many beautiful poems, interviews, songs and photos. Bano's sister was one of the survivors who were interviewed. It was rough to see her. They look so much alike. Lara was really brave and I just could not help the tears filling up. We sat in front of the TV the whole family plus Connor and Tor Egil. It was really good having Connor's arms around me. A lot of songs had been made for this occasion. I liked most of them but the one that stuck out the most for me was Vi ser dere nå (we see you now) from deLillos.

Så mange uskyldige
blir drept i en krig,
for oss så utydelige
i en tall-statistikk.

Vakre og sterke,

vi ser dere nå.
Hver dag kan vi merke
at vi ikke kan forstå
